When one hears the word ‘chemical’ or ‘toxin’, many times poison control or instant death comes to mind. The effects of chemical stress over time, however, is the real danger we are up against. We are all being exposed repeatedly to various chemicals, and, over time, many are reaching their threshold. Some 80 million pounds of the chemical eluded to are applied annually in the United States on corn and sorghum. And since it has some very damaging effects, you may just want to do everything you can to avoid it along with other herbicides and pesticides in the foods you encounter. But where do you start? It’s simple really. Two awesome resources out there that can help you with your clean produce choices are “The Clean 15” and “The Dirty Dozen” which are published annually by the Environmental Working Group. They test commercially raised produce for pesticide residues and publish the cleanest and the most toxic items. They also have an app for smartphones that you can download and access at any time while shopping or eating out to help you stay conscious and clean in your eating habits.
